Extra-curricular activities

Band

The outstanding band program at Belrose Public School begins in Year 3 when all students are invited to join the Junior Band. Auditions are held for transition from Junior to Intermediate Band at the end of Year 3 and from Intermediate to Senior Band at the end of Year 4. Talented students in Year 5 and 6 also have the opportunity to join the Jazz Band.

The three senior bands will be touring in Term 4 this year. The bands participate in festivals, school events and community events throughout the year. A joint parent/staff band committee supports the band program in conjunction with the school bandmaster.

Choir

We have two choirs at Belrose Public School, the Senior Choir and the Junior Choir.  The Senior Choir consists of students from Years 3 to 6 , while the Junior Choir consists of Year 2 students.

The choirs perform at school events and organisations outside of school. A group of students have auditioned for School Spectacular this year, an annual event that showcases talent over 5,000 schools across NSW at Qudos Bank Arena. Both choirs rehearse each week during school time.

Dance

Our school has two Senior Dance groups and a Junior Dance group. The Senior and Junior Dance groups perform in the Sydney North Dance Festival, located at Glen Street Theatre. All dance groups perform at school events.

Public School Sports Association

Each year, students in Years 5 and 6 participate in the Public School Sports Association (PSSA) inter-school sport competition. Summer sports include cricket, T-ball and softball. Winter sports include soccer, netball and Australian football league (AFL).

Home Sport

Our school's provision for sport and fitness includes a broad range of competitive and non-competitive activities.

In Term 1, several sporting activities are available to students in Years 3 and 4 and those in Years 5 and 6 not participating in PSSA. These include:

  • Netball
  • Dance (dance provided by external specialist on user pay basis)

Sports Carnivals

Our school holds three sports carnivals each year for students from 8 years old and above. The Swimming Carnival is held in Term 1 at Manly Swim Centre. The Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals are held in Term 1 and 2 respectively.

Students are chosen from these carnivals to represent the school at zone carnivals and from here they may be chosen for regional, state or national competitions.

Swim Scheme

Our school aims for every child to learn how to swim. Annual intensive swimming classes with qualified instructors are conducted for Year 2 students in Term 3.
