Wellbeing

Our Commitment to Wellbeing
We believe that strong partnerships with families, culture, and the wider community are essential for fostering student wellbeing, attendance, and engagement. By working together, we help every child develop a sense of belonging and achieve success at school.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.

The Anxiety Project
To support student wellbeing Belrose Public School has partnered with The Anxiety Project - a wellbeing program designed to help young people better understand and manage anxiety. The program includes extensive training of the staff, engaging and age-appropriate lessons for students and parent information sessions.
We learn:
- What anxiety is and how it affects our thoughts, bodies and emotions
- Common triggers and how to recognise early signs of worry
- How the brain responds to anxiety (including the "fight, flight, freeze" response)
- Strategies to manage anxious feelings, such as breathing techniques, mindfulness and positive self-talk
- The importance of speaking up and seeking support when needed
The program helps students build emotional literacy and practical coping skills, supporting their mental health both now and into the future.
School Behaviour Support and Management Plan
Belrose Public School is committed to explicitly teaching and modelling positive behaviour and to supporting all students to be engaged with their learning. Behaviour support is an integral part of Belrose’s Wellbeing Model which incorporates evidence informed practices within the framework of the five domains of wellbeing (social, cognitive, emotional, physical and spiritual). Key programs relating to behaviour are Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), PAX Good Behaviour Game and URStrong Friendology frameworks. These support structures are evidence based and endorsed by the NSW Department of Education. These frameworks assist with developing a sense of belonging and establishing and maintaining high standards to create an environment for continuous improvement. We teach and model the behaviours and personal attributes our school community values through our core values of respect, responsibility and personal best. We believe the clear and consistent expectations of each core value improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for all our students.
